Giles of Carmel Giles is an artist working primarily in gold. On display in his Carmel Studio you can see his collection of original handcrafted designs. Giles’ rings are unique and distinctive. He notes that, “a ring, like love, is a never ending circle—a celebration of life’s renewal. The free-form openings are the ‘negative space’ that creates the positive shape of my designs. Like the black & white of Ying and Yang, they are part of the whole of completeness. To me they suggest the exploring and mutual discovery that exist in a loving relationship.” Using the “lost wax” method, Giles works to shape, create, change and work out solutions in the wax image. The image is then carefully cast and hand-finished for a piece distinguished by its quality and beauty.
